SAWGraph supports queries that connect information across datasets and domains. Users can investigate PFAS observations together with information about facilities and industries, hydrology, spatial relationships, wells, chemical substances, agriculture, and other environmental context. Several interfaces and examples are available for exploring how SAWGraph organizes, connects, and queries this information.

Ways to Explore SAWGraph

SAWGraph Explorer

The SAWGraph Explorer provides an interactive interface for working with prebuilt analyses, analyses created and shared by community users, or new analyses built from your selections. You can choose features or observations, specify regions and filters, define relationships between them, and explore the resulting data without needing specialized coding or querying skills.

Open Knowledge Network

SAWGraph knowledge graphs registered with the Open Knowledge Network include the SAWGraph PFAS KG , SAWGraph FRS KG , SAWGraph Hydrology KG , and SAWGraph Spatial KG . Their registry pages provide an overview of each graph along with example queries, endpoints, and schema information. The OKN Query Interface provides another way to work directly with the registered graphs.

How SAWGraph Queries Work

SAWGraph queries combine information from multiple sources through concepts and relationships represented in its interconnected knowledge graphs. Queries can use conditions such as location, chemical substance, concentration, facility or industry type, spatial relationship, or hydrologic connection to retrieve information that would otherwise have to be assembled across separate datasets.

During knowledge graph design and evaluation, competency questions define the kinds of questions the graphs should be able to answer. Specific user queries translate these broader questions into conditions that can be executed against the graph.

SAWGraph demos currently illustrate three guiding use case areas: understanding monitoring results and coverage, assessing and mapping impacts and risks, and tracing potential contamination sources.

These examples connect information about testing, wells, waterbodies, facilities, and hydrology to help examine where additional testing may be useful.
