Project
The Safe Agricultural Products and Water Graph (SAWGraph) is an NSF-funded project developing an open knowledge network to support the monitoring and tracing of PFAS and other contaminants in the nation’s food and water systems. SAWGraph integrates environmental observations with information about facilities and industries, hydrology, spatial relationships, agriculture, chemical substances, and other context to support analysis across datasets.
Project Context
Funding & Proto-OKN
SAWGraph is supported by the National Science Foundation under Award No. 2333782 as a Theme 1 project in the Building the Prototype Open Knowledge Network (Proto-OKN) program.
The Proto-OKN program is building a prototype of the Open Knowledge Network (OKN) , a planned interconnected network of public data and knowledge graphs designed to support research, decision-making, and other data-driven applications. SAWGraph contributes knowledge graphs and use cases focused on PFAS and other contaminants in food and water systems.
Collaborating Institutions
The SAWGraph project is led by the University of Maine in collaboration with Kansas State University, Pennsylvania State University, and Northeastern University. Researchers from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency also participate as federal partners.
The collaboration brings together expertise in knowledge graphs and ontologies, computer and data science, geospatial and environmental data, hydrology, chemistry, agriculture, and contaminant monitoring.
Research Team
The SAWGraph research team includes principal investigators, federal partners, and research assistants from participating institutions.
